I am thrilled to treat this subject, which is not one that I have spent much time on in the past. Really, I just did general, non-specific liver and gall bladder cleansing in the past and that seemed to work just fine. Then, I ran into a situation where I needed to do a more intensive gall bladder flush as I was cleansing out systemic toxins after a time of stress which led to illness.
I realized that my body showed every evidence of overflowing organic toxins. These, your body will try hard to eliminate, but the primary organ of strength and elimination for them is the gall bladder.
I consulted with several respected colleagues/friends to help guide me. I did other things that are congruent for me to do. One of the several things that appeared as something that I really needed to do was an intensive gall bladder flush.
I looked around and found one that I felt would work for my situation. I had already been doing intensive healing and had been successful up to this point. Thus my body was ready to dump a lot, and had a lot of backed up toxins to dump!
When I did this short, simple cleanse, I literally passed more than 50 of the semi-soft (about clay-consistency) bright green bile stones. These stones are made of green bile (hence the distinguished color) cholesterol and toxic fats. They are not as irritating or hard as other types of stones you might get in the gall bladder, but they were enough to keep my gall bladder backed up and toxic (as well as my liver since the gall bladder is the exit for the liver). These stones together would have easily filled a cup or more by volume.
Then came enormous relief in how I felt and feeling like I had a new lease on life. After I got done, I knew I had to document and write about this issue for you, my readers.
The version I originally learned for a gall bladder flush is the most natural one, but it takes three days. I did not have that kind of time and patience in my situation, so I was directed by one of my colleagues to Hulda Clarke’s gall bladder flush.
I looked it over carefully and modified it to fit my unique knowledge and tastes and choices. The results were stunning, as I have mentioned.
So, with that teaser, let me take a commercial break.

Thank you for allowing the commercial, but I could tell you were getting worked up about the gall bladder flush.
Let’s see, I was telling you about the gall bladder flush variation that I did and how well it works.
Let me back up and give you a little info on when and why to do a gall bladder flush.
Anytime you feel evidence of organic toxins building, it is time to flush the gall bladder (and maybe feed the heart with something like Richard Schulze’s Heart Formula). Organ toxins (I can hear you asking already) are noticeable in several ways:
Breakouts on the face (especially around the mouth) of pimples;
Eczemas and other dermatosis;
Swelling of lipomas (soft fatty clusters, usually near the sternum of sacrum or in the muscles of the back—though potentially anywhere);
Anger and rage;
Fear and other emotional extremes;
Extreme body-wide discomfort or sensitivity;
Bad breath;
Bloating after every meal;
Heart palpitations
Kidney Weakness or pain
Frequent urination
Nausea
Poor digestion
General weakness (in body OR disposition)
Poor Immune Response
Slow or poor response to a good natural healing program
Clustered or sluggish lymph
Insomnia
Vertigo
Understand that most of these symptoms could come from other sources, but if you have a combination of these, you probably have a good enough reason to do a gall bladder flush. I am not a medical doctor, but then everything I am going to tell you about is either food or an over the counter medicine.
One more note here, if you started a healing program and discovered the above symptoms appearing, probably you have stirred up toxins for removal that are not being thrown off by the organs. In this case, a gall bladder flush is a very good idea.
If you decide that you need to do a gall bladder flush, the next step is to ask yourself if you are ready to do one.
If you have just come off of several years of pizza and root beer, I am not sure that I would attempt a gall bladder flush until you have readied your body. It is doubtful that your body will be able to perform much of a flush (though bodies often surprise us in positive ways, so I cannot tell you to not do it).
Preferable would be that you are following a healthy program at least as good as the light load program taught in Traci’s Transformational Health Principles (available at www.bestfoodist.com ). If you have, then you can probably do this gall bladder flush anytime. It is best if you have a couple mornings of nothing but fresh juice for breakfast, but if you are on the fruit until noon program, you do not need to do anything extra. You are ready to start the gall bladder flush any evening.
The last thing that should be in place before doing a gall bladder flush is a healthy bowel. It is hard to flush the gall bladder if the place it dumps into is toxic. Thus if you have slow bowel movements, you will need to take Richard Schulze’s Intestinal Formula #1 or Dr. Christopher’s Original Formulas Quick Colon for several days before starting the gall bladder flush. Take as much as you need to get your bowels moving at least as often as you eat, preferably more often. They need to be moving this well before starting the gall bladder flush.
Just like before, sometimes the body surprises us all. If you feel driven to do a gall bladder flush and do not have the time, patience or money to prepare everything, just do what you can and see what happens. I know of no adverse effects in those who were not ready to do it right, and often the effects are miraculous!
Things you will need:
Wintergreen pure essential oil (a high quality brand is obviously preferred, several are available on line)
Epsom Salt
High quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil (at least ½ cup per person)
Four yellow grapefruit per person
Richard Schulze’s L-GB Formula and his Heart Formula (optional, but useful)
Distilled or filtered water
A taste of sea salt (optional)
Step one: Eat only raw food that day and stop eating by about 2 pm. You can eat after 2, but it does work better if your system is empty. Definitely do not eat any cooked food after 2 pm.
Step two: At about 6 pm, take one tablespoon of Epsom salts in a cup of water. If you have it, put two to three droppers full of Richard Schulze’s L-GB and his Heart formula in the Epsom salts drink. The Epsom salts should be totally dissolved in the water.
Wash your grapefruit completely and then peel it. Cut off ½ slice crosswise that is about ½ inch (1.3 cm) thick. Sprinkle it with about ten drops of wintergreen oil and eat it. The wintergreen oil and sweet juice will kill all sorts of parasites that will weaken and congest the lymph and liver and all systems.
Step three: At about 8 pm, repeat everything you did at 6 pm.
Step four: At about 9:45, repeat everything you did at 8 pm.
Step five: At 10 pm, drink ½ cup of your high quality extra virgin olive oil. Follow this by eating the rest of the grapefruit and two more. Make sure you chew each bite to just juice and make sure you sprinkle wintergreen oil on each full bite (so that you are consuming maybe 40 drops of wintergreen oil per grapefruit).
Notice: Wintergreen oil is potentially toxic and should not be consumed in anything other than drop-sized doses and not for any length of time. In a setting like this, I am unaware of any potential problems with it and it is a good deal safer than many things we ingest.
When you have finished the last of the grapefruit, put a little sea salt on your tongue if you want to help your system feel stable and strong.
It is important that you use the bathroom one more time and then go immediately to bed. If you can get someone to, it is a good idea to rub the reflex zones on the feet with castor oil as this will permeate the whole system and encourage movement and catharsis. It electrifies the whole body and creates vitality for healing. You need to get to sleep so that you can relax and get healing.
Step Six: In the morning, get up and drink one more cup of Epsom salts drink, prepared exactly like the night before.
You can then eat the last grapefruit with wintergreen and go back to bed or start your day depending on how you feel. I find that this program is actually revitalizing, rather than weakening.
Then, watch your bowel movements for stones. The green stones, like mine, will float. Some will sink like rocks and are much harder. There are screens you can buy to poop through so you can monitor any stones that come out if you would like.
This program is so easy and quick that anyone can work it into their schedule. It is relatively mild (though some might experience some nausea as the stones move) and very rich in experiential sensation. I could feel my gall bladder dumping what felt like a clumpy bowel movement (aren’t you glad I told you that) several times and even into the next day. It was a profound experience that resulted in immediate boosting of my vitality.

The Feast of Less:
When I first entered the natural healing field, I found many varied approaches to the same sorts of problems. I tried many of these and found them all to have a certain value that I appreciated.
One theme that was not varied, however, was the belief in giving the body more and more of what it lacked in order to make sure it could heal and perform and feel at its best.
After about ten years of practice and over 12 years of study, I am satisfied that there is another valid viewpoint that we should consider when approaching our own personal journey to health.
This viewpoint is the viewpoint that, generally, the body really needs less, not more, in order to be at its best.
Before I launch into this discussion, which will give you power to heal, be healthy and prevent all kinds of diseases, I want to give you a valuable announcement.
First, I am happy to announce that Kal’s School is getting wider publicity and some of its articles are being published to hundreds of thousands of people. Some of you are recent users of www.kalsschool.com as a result of this increased publicity. Thank you so much for joining us.
I also have noticed that www.kalsschool.com now has more users in the Atlanta, Georgia area than outside of it. Because of this, I want to invite those of you that are in or near Cobb County, Georgia, to join us in our live classes. We have begun teaching Traci’s Transformational Kitchen classes, which is the curriculum for natural nutrition from KalsSchool and takes 10 weeks to complete, with one 2 hour class per week. The current class series is about 1/3 through and then it will be restarted. Now, back to our subject at hand: Less is More!
Here are a couple peripheral notices about this subject that I just need to free up before continuing:
1. I did not come up with this idea. Today there are groups of people, often living in planned communities, who live off of a basically healthy diet—nothing special—who consume basically half of what they should “need” for daily caloric intake. These groups very quickly go to a disease-free state and definitely outlive their standard-American counterparts. In fact, it is well known and well studied that if you start today and begin slowly starving yourself to death you will live longer than you otherwise would have. Young of studied species who were slightly starved through their developmental years and then allowed to eat as they chose in adulthood lived up to 15% longer!
2. Let me look at the other side of the issue for a moment. I believe that abundance is the natural state of human beings. I believe we should enjoy the rich abundance of the earth with gratitude, faith and peace. I believe we should rejoice in what is offered freely by nature and never look our gift-horse in the mouth, so to speak. I also believe that this abundance is best experienced by those who look beyond their immediate impulses (believing that there will still be enough later) and develop self-control of their immediate indulgent energy in order to secure higher rewards.
Having introduced those notices, we are ready to proceed.
Here are some points that will support the conclusion that I have already given you about the body doing better with less, rather than more:
1. When the body is given too much, it becomes exhausted, overloaded, tired and toxic. It does not digest well, largely because the digestive systems are exhausted from overload.
In this state, a person appears malnourished, but is, in fact, over-nourished in the extreme. Instead of taking a supplement, does it not seem logical to remove the burden first and then selectively feed and nourish and support the systems that really need the extra help?
When concentrated nutrients are pushed on the body, it is true that it can pick up more nutrition for weak cells. However, those concentrated nutrients often attract macro-nutrients that can put on weight, cause cravings for even more food and can actually add additional load to an already overloaded body system.
In my system of healing, I tend to use only whole plant super supplements that contain no isolated nutrients. Lots of nutrients are available, but natural barriers prevent the body from getting more than it is ready to handle.
2. Food is, before and after all else, a stimulant. Each food stimulates the body in some way. With such excess of stimulation the body overpowers the higher faculties of the mind and heart and spirit. In this condition, one finds that s/he has difficulty experiencing his/her authentic self.
That stimulation can be, and is good and useful, but it needs to be withdrawn from us from time to time in order to discover what is authentic about ourselves. In my program, regular fasting or fasting-type cleanses are encouraged as a matter of ritual. During this time the body finds things that can be found in no other way. I am persuaded that it does no small good to the spirit also.
3. From an empirical standpoint, those who clean their bodies out and begin eating foods that do not leave a residue, and at times of day when digestion is at its best find that they can eat less, poop more, feel better and go much further without exhaustion or immune system failure.
4. The leading cause of disease is acidity and residue in the body. This comes only from excess and from clutter that deposits in the body in a thousand different forms. Clean this out and you might still need help to heal this system or that organ, but you will find yourself pain-free and feeling okay.
5. Dr. Christopher used to get his cancer patients pain free in 48 hours by putting them on cleansing herbs (blood herbs and bowel herbs) and a juice fast. He would also give them slippery elm gruel and comfrey green drink—the closest thing to a super supplement that he personally used.
Those patients never got dense nutrition (beyond juices) and never got pain killers. Not all of them lived, some were completely riddled with cancer by the time they called him, but all of those who lived at least 48 hours died pain free with their wits about them, often months after it was predicted that they would die. Very often, his patients recovered completely, never to have a relapse. Clearly, excess is the problem, not deficiency.
6. Cancer starves to death much faster than you can. If you eat basically healthy food but far less than you need, cancer cells will starve to death at an accelerated rate, long before you ever do any kind of damage to yourself. This can sometimes be a cure all by itself, provided that the elimination channels are working as they should be.
In conclusion, most problems appear to be caused by excess, rather than by true deficiency. Even in countries where they are supposedly starving, closer examination by natural healers (you can read about such an instance in Dr. Mom’s Healthy Living by Sandra Ellis—a must for serious herbal students) reveals that parasites, which feed off of food stuffs that could not be fully digested, were the real cause of protein deficiency in many (if not all) of those villages. When people were purged of the parasites, normal health was restored.
Some problems really do need some support and feeding to heal. I have learned, however, that it is all but impossible to determine what the real needs of the human body are while it is overfed. Only when the person goes down to a minimum consumption of the healthiest kinds of foods can that person ever really know what systems and body parts and organs really need to be fed something special.
This is not, of course, an invitation to starve or do something radically harmful to yourself if you have a medical condition. Rather, I recommend following the guidelines of a competent health practitioner and maybe starting with Traci’s Transformational Health Principles and Traci’s Transformational Kitchen Cookbook, which you can read about at www.BestFoodist.com
When you are ready and your body is beginning to come to life, then is the time to consider a fast, a time of eating less than you think needful and a time of learning about your body and your health and what about you really does need additional help.

Candida is an epidemic today. To make matters worse, candida is often the fall guy for conditions that seem unexplained.
This causes many people to feel that candida is an insurmountable problem. It gets worse than that too, because the popular candida diets leave you less healthy than before you started, making the proverb true, “the cure is worse than the disease.”
In an effort to straiten this out, I have been writing articles for NaturalNews.com and other popular publications about the candida problem.
To begin with, we will spend a moment discussing the causes of candida today, then we will divide the treatment into three categories that address the three kinds of candida problems.
The causes of candida, traditionally, were something that killed natural flora (a poison or antibiotic or lots of stress and really bad diet) and then a diet high in sugar and alcohol that candida loved.
Today, however, the people getting candida the fastest and most are actually those making the transition to a healthier way of living.
This is partly because of chemicals in our foods that inhibit fungus. These chemicals are there for obvious shelf-life reasons. The consequence is that our natural defenses against fungus are weak and underdeveloped, not to mention the possible toxic damage from those chemicals.
Of course, those who will feel this the most are the ones who recently abandoned, or (worse yet) partially abandoned those foods.
Another recent factor in the candida struggle is synthetic fibers and debris in the air upon which fungi is likely to grow.
Finally, the less recent problem is that our diets and lifestyles and chemical-rich environments wipe out our most natural defense against yeast and fungi: our friendly flora.
To treat candida requires three approaches, depending on the level of invasion of candida into your system.
Approach #1 is simply removing candida from your blood. This becomes an issue when flora has been damaged or when the immune system is weak and candida or any other fungus can grow in the blood without being promptly and fully removed. For this there are three steps:
- Eat a diet that has very low residue. This means eating foods that digest well and completely. The best instruction manual for this is Traci’s Transformational Health Principles, available through www.bestfoodist.com or on Amazon.com. It follows that things like having cayenne in water 15 minutes before each meal, sipping apple cider vinegar in water with each meal, chewing your food far better and eating light and early for dinner are all very important. It also follows that processed food, which might enter your body without digesting first, is well to avoid. Such undigested residue will feed yeast while leaving your body toxic. Undigested food always feeds disease and starves you.
- Kill Candida directly. The very best herbal formula for this is Dr. Christopher’s Original Yellow Dock Combination. This original formula is no longer available (the slippery elm version is not nearly as effective), but the recipe can be found on the downloads page of www.kalsschool.com When I use Yellow Dock Combination (YDC), I use the powder and stir it into juice (that is right, juice that theoretically will feed the yeast—of course there is a yeast poison attached) by the spoon full a couple times daily. I also like to use a dropper full of bayberry tincture in an ounce of water two or three times daily (the last time right before bed).
- Boost natural immune response. This could include a lot of things, including the diet mentioned above (which is really a refined version of the Mucusless Diet of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes). However, the direct approach that I use is an herbal formula that I make up myself called I-Charge. This formula is not available for sale anywhere currently, so you can also get the recipe from my downloads page on www.kalsschool.com I use three droppers of the tincture three times daily in cases of a very weakened immune system. It should be taken on an empty stomach.
Approach #2 is dealing with the candida allergy
While candida no doubt is a real problem today, far more often when someone contacts me for help with candida troubles, the troubles they describe are auto-immune, not infection related.
This spells allergy. It means that they are having an allergic response to candida (and probably several other microorganisms and irritants), rather than just an infection or overgrowth of candida.
Auto-immune conditions of all types have a lot to do with irritating, high-residue, high-mucus diets. When my wife started on the Dr. Christopher program of cleansing and eating a mucusless diet, she had such severe allergies to sage brush that she could only be in it for five minutes before she needed a drug. After two years on the program, she went for a drive with me in the sage brush for five hours and never had allergy #1! This is the power of cleaning out the residue and the irritation of a toxic diet and body.
Sometimes, diet is not enough and some systems need extra healing and/or cleansing. The liver and spleen need to be cleaned and the adrenal glands often need to be regenerated.
Dr. Christopher’s Original Formulas offers adrenal and liver formulas and there are also recipes to the ones I use on my downloads page, mentioned above.
As for the spleen, my basic formula for the spleen is as follows:
2 parts Poke root
6 parts Mullein root
5 parts Slippery elm
10 parts Ginger
2 parts prickly ash
6 parts plantain leaf
3 parts astragalus
5 parts red raspberry leaf
One can expect it to take several weeks to rebuild adrenal glands or spleen or whatever system is out of balance. If you have no viable way of testing, then I would start with the adrenal glands, then clean out the liver, then heal the spleen.
Generally, this is a reliable way to eliminate auto-immune reactions and allergies. Of course, it is wise to maintain a diet high in raw food and exclusive of non-foods.
I strongly advocate getting both Traci’s principles book and her Recipe Collection, which makes eating healthy easy, tasty and fun.
Approach #3 is removing embedded candida/fungus from the skin or other tissues
Sometimes candida or some other fungus gets embedded in the skin. It grows in a pattern. It discolors the skin and can cause various dermatosis and pustules on the hands, feet, face and chest.
This candida has found the magical land where it can stay out of reach of the blood when the body tries to kill it from within, and out of reach of topical medicine when you try to kill it from without.
To treat this problem, you do have to approach both external and internal at the same time. Of course, you make your body as healthy as it can be so that you do not invite it back after you kill it.
To treat the problem, I have another formula that I use, called "Anti-Pus:"
8 parts ginger root
5 parts slippery elm bark powder
3 parts plantain leaf
2 parts oregano leaf
2 parts beet root
2 parts turmeric
3 parts elecampane root (you may use burdock root if you cannot find elecampane)
2 parts marshmallow root
This formula is used by the spoonful internally. You can stir it into water and drink it down. It takes about three to four doses per day to be effective, the last dose close to bed time and the first dose early in the day.
In addition to this, I like the use of I-Charge (mentioned above and given on the downloads page of
www.kalsschool.com ) topically. It is strong and you are going to smell it, but it is without a doubt the fastest remedy I know of. It might burn a little and you do want to be careful when treating the fungus in sensitive areas of the body and face.
The ginger, in the formula given above, dissolves the barriers that fungus creates in the skin to protect itself from immune attacks, while the other herbs help neutralize or remove pus and debris that plug the lymphatic system and leave the area toxic for longer than normal, thus allowing the fungus to continue to survive.
The elecampane/ burdock root is there to supply inulin, which is fertilizer for healthy flora.

Germ Theory vs. Environment
Recently, a friend of mine suggested that I revisit this subject (the natural healer’s position on germ theory—the idea that germs cause disease). I feel like this subject is rudimentary and at the very core of natural healing and that most people who choose natural healing should understand this concept.
Indeed, if you do not understand this most fundamental concept, you probably will always find your efforts at natural healing stifled and limited, if you attempt to use natural healing at all.
The question on the table is: is disease caused by infection, or by the environmental conditions inside your body?
In other words, is a germ to blame for your troubles?
Even though Louis Pasteur stated at the end of his life (he was the fellow who “invented” Pasteurization) that “the germ is nothing, terrain is everything,” we still can hardly argue about the contagiousness of pink eye, influenza and the common cold.
Even in cancer and auto-immune disease we think we have shown that without a germ present to overreact to, there is no cancer, there is no auto-immune disease.
On the other hand, no one in the natural healing world doubts that cancer is environmental in nature. On this same hand, there is the case in my home of the complete absence of influenza, so long as we keep our bowels healthy and our diets “pretty good.”
Yet, we get the flu “bug” at our house, it just looks very different. We have a fever for a couple hours one afternoon and then we are done with it.
Then there is the amazing, but suppressed discovery of Royal Raymond Rife, who created what was, essentially, a laser microscope (using crystals and refracted light and an extraordinary design, still unheard of today).
We only know of Rife because of the medical doctors who kept records of his discovery. For all my occasional criticism of them, if it were not for sincere medical doctors interested in really helping people, we would have no knowledge of Rife at all.
Rife’s microscope would view upwards of 60,000X and could watch microorganisms while they were still alive (electron microscopes, the only other option for viewing anything so tiny, only view dead specimens).
He demonstrated to a body of medical doctors/researchers that microorganisms mutate from benign form into pathogenic form and then to parasitic form (and back) based entirely on environmental conditions. He stated that viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites were all the same organism, which mutates rapidly based on conditions to form any of the variety of them that we see around and within us.
He was able to demonstrate this to his audience using his microscope.
A little later, he developed a technology to send out electromagnetic waves which would kill any and all of a select microorganism, while leaving other tissue unharmed.
This was the last straw. He was attacked by the medical profession in a wide variety of ways, eventually culminating in the destruction of his microscope and all of his research and driving him to drunkenness for the remainder of his days.
While no one has re-invented his microscopic technology, there are literally dozens of methods of killing microorganisms with electromagnetic energy that is harmless to normal cells. Any amount of research on the internet will probably yield you plans to make your own home version of such a device and will probably direct you to someone with a quantum biofeedback machine that you can seek out and have it done with this sophisticated device.
However, you will find quickly that this does not immediately relieve you of all discomfort in life, and, indeed, will not keep away microorganisms either.
This is because the “germ is nothing.”
Rife taught it, and then determined that he could yet be helpful to others by killing the germs.
I agree with this and I have many methods of healing that include killing germs. I also understand that a well entrenched germ might go a long ways toward generating its own environment right around it, thus perpetuating its existence.
Having said this, it seems a little crazy to fight germs endlessly while ignoring the fact that germs are only virulent in your body as long as the conditions are right for them.
On this note, it seems prudent here to point out that this is a principle of natural selection. If you keep your body clean and unwelcome to germs, you survive and perpetuate the species with sensible folks like yourself.
It also seems quite merciful to those who need a little motivation to take better care of themselves, since getting an infection will certainly trigger mechanisms designed to clean out your body and at no time can you cleanse as fast as when you are really good and sick.
Finally, the presence of germs helps to bring on death and decay when it is time to die. They will work with nature to decompose your body and make it ready for the scavengers and decomposers who will eventually turn you into grass and trees and flowers.
While we are alive and well, however, it seems like maybe we would all rather avoid being sick and dying. This dichotomy seems to be an accepted part of life today—everyone who is “alive and well” is also simultaneously “dead and dying.” This is probably a product, in no small part, to our thinking and beliefs about life.
Some day, a diet and herbal medicine guru like myself will lay on my deathbed and say, “diet and terrain is nothing, thought and belief is everything.”
Only…I already believe this, I just understand that there is a lot of suffering that can be relieved using natural healing. I also understand that by changing the terrain physically, just like by killing germs directly, we can raise the energy and vibration of the whole body and facilitate a state where higher consciousness is an easier place to go.
But I shall endeavor to get back to the point now that I have bounced around the various facts on the subject.
When a person has ideal conditions, like maintained in the bowels in my family, and an infectious microorganism comes along, it comes into the body but is quickly destroyed by the immune system and also mutates out of existence within an hour or two.
Even in poor conditions, any infection to your immune system is like a gnat to an elephant. There is no threat of any kind.
Yet, people die from infections, from influenza, from cancer and from the common cold. Why?
The answer is wound up in several elements simultaneously.
First, the problem arises that when the conditions are perfect for infection, they are not so perfect for immune action. The immune system is burdened with a lot of extraneous debris and is stressed and probably malnourished.
Second, there is the issue of the infection itself causing an immune response. This response includes lots of acidity, lymph movement and activity. The result is a lot of otherwise sedentary debris being at once kicked up throughout the whole body.
This problem is the major cause of death due to infection. The immune system is suddenly overburdened with jobs to tend to and often goes into extreme overreaction mode, where it is less effective and more destructive than normal. It is no secret that when someone dies from an infection it is their own immune system that kills them. This is basic health class from high school.
Third, the above problems are greatly aggravated by poor elimination. If the exit channels of the body are blocked, weak and congested, the stirred up debris will have a tough time getting out and the result will certainly be a prolonged and more dangerous illness.
On this note, for more than a hundred years natural healers have kept people from dying or being injured by plagues of their day by taking the sick person and treating them like they are on a cleanse and need that cleanse accelerated. Enemas, hot and cold water therapy, hot herbal teas and artificial fevers, juice and herbal tea fasting and so forth have been the modes of operation.
I have used this approach many times and have always found it effective.
Fourth, and finally, the way a person thinks, how much stress they have, whether they think they should be grateful and loving or whether they think they should be angry, fearful and hurt by what life is presenting to them right now is the final say in whether they get better and healthier or get worse/die from any infection or disease of any kind.
My conclusion, then, is that germs are an instigator in disease, but cannot be labeled as a sole cause. They will come into a body that is inhospitable and will find themselves unable to cause illness in the least. They will come into a toxic body where they are welcome and they will take over.
Even though the immune system will quickly kill the germ, this will not be the end of the story when the conditions are welcoming to the germ. All the debris “kicked up” by the immune response to the germ will have to be eliminated or laid back down.
This debris can be a lot of things in your body, from undigested food, to toxins, to actual wastes from your own body. They look like pain, thick mucus, bloody discharge (or even hemorrhaging), aches, diarrhea, vomiting, digestive distress, breathing problems, fever, etc.
Unfortunately, the modern medicine approach to an acute infection almost certainly leads to deeper, more serious disease (a great investment for drug companies) because they are designed to settle back down the debris in the body, as opposed to eliminating it. Indeed, they add their own layer of chemicals to that increasing toxicity and debris.
Drugs cut inflammation, reduce heat, stop expectoration, stop elimination, etc.
As an herbalist, I want to eliminate the debris, toxic or benign, that is in the body and I would have every person get on a diet that keeps the body free of debris in the future. I hope that you all own Traci’s Transformational Health Principles, now available from Amazon.com.
I know that some infections, especially superficial ones, will be invited in during times of stress where people forget to be loving and grateful. Diet and cleansing will not eliminate this problem. Still, so much will be eliminated by diet and cleansing. No one need fear the bird flu, or any other kind of flu. No one need die of most diseases because, should you contract them out of stress when your body is in good shape, you will find that you are easy to treat.
I suppose diseases that are hypersensitive to our states of mind (pink eye, candida, auto-immune diseases) will have to be tended still by those who keep their bodies clean and well.
Still, the idea that we should believe in germ theory (the idea that we are simply victims of germs that we “catch” from others) is nothing short of disempowering. It is not true anyway, it simply has an element of truth and that is good enough for those among us who would rather believe that they are not responsible for their troubles.
Some people seem to want to buy into defeating ideas which rob them of personal responsibility. These might be things like, “it is genetic,” “a virus” or some other un-helpable scenario for which the person cannot possibly be held accountable. I say this is balderdash. We can rise higher than this. We can make the choice and never look back. We can make the choice right now, this moment. We can be healthier and happier after this.

7 Herbs that Create 10 Major Healing Processes
The basis of the following herbal formulation is very old. It has been used for a variety of physical complaints, both chronic and acute.
Dr. Richard Schulze, who taught at the School of Natural Healing and who runs the American Botanical Pharmacy, made his version of this formula famous under the name, “Super Tonic,” which he uses for acute infections such as colds and flu.
The blend of these herbs is very powerful, as is attested by anyone who has put them to work.
The author modified this formula yet again and created a long-term tonic from it that is designed for creating health processes when energy and organ function is very low.
The result is a formula that appears to clean the body at almost every level and to stimulate digestion, improve enzymatic activity and strengthen overall vitality over the long term.
In the author’s practice, the herbal formula made from the 7 herbs below is used in small doses for a long period of time as a restorative or in higher doses for an acute infection or life-threatening condition.
For references, this article uses Dr. Duke’s Database, which gives chemicals and their studied properties in an effort to explain, from a drug and chemical perspective, the actions of a vast collection of herbs. The link is included to explore the chemical properties of the following herbs, which may explain why they are used in this particular formulation.

Horseradish is in first place today. This member of the mustard family is grossly underused. The entire formula shows anti-cancer and anti-tumor properties, as well as properties for normalizing immune response, inhibiting allergies and decongesting the whole body. The entire formula is also very carminative (improves digestion) and cholagogue (causes the liver to cleanse through dumping bile) with the exception of parsley, discussed last.
Horseradish, however, is king of carminatives and, while not the strongest cholagogue, is very warming to the liver and brings up activity there when the liver may be suppressed due to stress, bad diet, fear or damage.
Dr. Christopher also used Horseradish for allergy and asthmatic cases and in Duke’s Database, there are at least two prominent chemicals that show significant promise against allergies and asthma.
In our world of stressed and freaked out people, the benefit of horseradish on the digestion and the liver cannot be overestimated.
Garlic almost needs no introduction among anyone who uses it medicinally. It is well studied for fighting infections, tumors, cancer and immune dysfunction. It has long been used for preventing plagues and contagious disease transferred by anything from insects to sex.
Garlic shows promise for fighting some types of parasites, especially intestinal and liver parasites. It inhibits fungal growth and may destroy it. Richard Schulze, mentioned above, uses garlic to treat stubborn vaginal yeast infections.
Garlic is also decongestant, has some antihistamine properties and also improves digestion.
Since fungal/yeast problems are alluded to above, it is useful to point out that any real problem with systemic yeast overgrowth presupposes a problem with digestion so that undigested food can promote the growth of yeast instead of getting into your cells and promoting the consumer’s health. A carminative formula like this one might be as useful for candida troubles as any other approach in the author’s domain of knowledge.
When garlic is used long-term, it normalizes immune response. Large doses of garlic should be kept to short term, since it can affect red blood cells adversely, but in reasonable doses it can be a long-term miracle worker.
Onion\ is closely related to garlic, but gets an extra star for inhibiting auto-immune response and allergies. Dr. Christopher called it the greatest natural antihistamine known to man.
Used properly, this plant seems to work its own set of miracles. It is similar to garlic in many ways, but certainly not the same. In food, it is rarely complementary to garlic, but in medicine it often is.
Cayenne and Habanero are not the same at all, though they are closely related peppers. Each pepper acts with nuances of differences. Cayenne is what is called a permanent stimulant that stays in the system for a long time maintaining its action.
It is useful here to be reminded that in herbology, the word “stimulant” means something different than it does in the drug world. Stimulants are herbs that increase vital activity, in other words, they increase life force, or chi, in the body.
This is not a variation of caffeine or some other stimulant chemical.
Habanero peppers love the immune system and seem to be able to take any other immune food or stimulant and make it three to five times as effective.
This action is not understood, but it is easily observed by anyone who has tried Echinacea alone and then put it with garlic and then put the two of them with habanero. WOW!
Both improve circulation, thin mucus and may promote endocrine health. Many endocrine glands appear to increase uptake of nutrition and seem to spontaneously begin self-repair when cayenne or habanero peppers are used. This action does not appear to be consistent when these peppers are used in food, but only appears when they are taken in herbal supplements or in water separate from meals.
Ginger is one of our aces in the hole when it comes to protecting the body against excess heat.
Teaching this has drawn some criticism from time to time because ginger is usually seen as warming in nature. The conclusion, then, would be that ginger would make things worse if you are too hot.
This is partly true, but not wholly true. The rest of the story is that ginger has another herbal property that we call “diffusive.” This means that it does not stay in the body very long and that it also moves quickly to the outside of the body and take the heat with it. Thus excess heat is easily released at the surface of the body and the normal temperature is quickly resumed.
Ginger also has many helpful medicinal properties for both short and long-term purposes.
The author has written before about the apparent effectiveness of ginger for fibromyalgia. Of course, this presumes correct diagnosis, which is questionable in the case of fibromyalgia.
A large does, in excess of 12 capsules per day, seems to rapidly relieve the symptoms of fibromyalgia in a couple of weeks.
Nothing works for everyone and the original study done (published in Dr. Duke’s Herbal Handbook) suggested about a 70% effectiveness of ginger against fibromyalgia, arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Ginger has value long term for managing inflammatory response in the body. To what extent is an ongoing debate, but the author finds in empirical study that the success rate is very high.
Ginger is also a wonderful carminative and is beneficial for the liver and cardiovascular systems.
Ginger might be the most dense natural source of enzymes. It will digest debris in the blood well enough to find its way into the Author’s “Anti-Pus” formula (found in the newsletters archives on
www.kalsschool.com ) for dissolving the defensive barriers put up by embedded yeast infections. The newsletter is entitled “The Candida Three.”
Parsley is the last of the regular herbs in this formula.
Parsley is one of the most amazing vital force enhancing herbs of all time. It certainly competes with the leading herbs on the planet for that purpose.
Once it was so sacred that lay people were not allowed to possess it or use it, only royalty were allowed.
Parsley has the most remarkable action on the kidneys and increases excretion of fluids that might build up due to cardiac edema or regular edema.
Parsley also contains potassium and chloride salts that aid in the break down of mucus and elimination of cellular debris and wastes. Potassium, according to Steve Whiting, PhD, is involved with getting things out of the cell when it is ready to eliminate, while sodium is involved in getting things in.
Of course, most raw green vegetable tops are loaded with potassium. The nice thing about parsley is that it’s other actions improve the cellular uptake and facilitate elimination out of the body through its action on the kidneys.
Parsley also is quite cooling. In a formula like this, parsley can take the edge off when the heat is a little too high.
Apple Cider Vinegar is the last herb. Of course, it is not what we traditionally call an herb. It is, however, a natural preparation of the apple, which is a wonderful medicine.
Apple cider vinegar retains much of the value of the apple and has some additional values to bring to the table. It is probiotic and full of enzymes. The use of apple cider vinegar in water to sip with meals has long been an aid for losing weight and may be particularly helpful in protein deficiencies, calcium deficiencies and digestive secretion deficiencies.
Apple cider vinegar was touted by Dr. Christopher for dissolving boney deposits associated with bone spurs and osteo-arthritis. The Author has long used this substance for that purpose.
Before we talk about how to make the formula, lets review the 10 health and healing processes that this formula is known or believed to create.
#1: This formula is well endowed with immune foods. These mildly stimulate the immune system and may dissolve lymphatic blockage and be pro-elimination enough to reduce the load on the immune system substantially.
#2: This formula is probably the most outstanding carminative (digestive aid/stimulant) in the author’s knowledge base. With a formula like this, one would have to wonder whether even severe cases really needed to supplement with enzymes. In addition to the carminative actions of the herbs, this formula will be, of itself, loaded with enzymes. Some of these will denature in the slight acidity of the vinegar, but for the most part they will survive to be used later in cleaning or digesting.
#3: This formula is full of timeless cleansing herbs. In the author’s estimation, this formula is as profoundly cleansing as any product on the market (though, different products often address different issues, and this is not a one-size fits all, formula, but it is a very good one).
Using this to help clean the blood seems inevitably effective. Generally, the author’s clients usually notice results immediately and continually throughout their use of this formula.
The enzyme content of this formula competes with blood-purifying enzyme supplements and is more natural.
#4: Many of the herbs in this formula have been studied for anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties. It is just possible that no stronger herbs for this purpose have ever been compiled together. The studies done on these compounds are not considered conclusive, nor should they be, but such a formula might be helpful in cancerous cases, if nothing else to aid the very weakened system to digest better, fight off invaders better and to be stronger.
#5: Viruses and bacteria, yeasts and molds are known to be susceptible to the strong chemistry of several of the herbs in this formula. Generally, most natural healers think in terms of the body’s own strength, nutrition and immune system, as well as its internal environment, when thinking of attacking invading germs. Sometimes, however, a strait out attack on the germ with herbs known or believed to kill them on contact, is appropriate and useful.
#6: Prevention. Yeah, the partaking entity will probably smell a little like garlic and this might keep his/her friends and relatives away from him/her, but this is not the only reason this formula might work for prevention. This formula may have as many chemicals known to protect against infection as it has to kill infection or boost the immune system.
#7: Inflammation is certainly addressed by this formula with a brilliant flare. Even silent inflammation, thought to be the leading cause of aging, may be addressed by the power of ginger and cayenne together. Couple this with #2/3 above and the reason for inflammation may also be significantly decreased.
Even small doses of this formula (the maintenance dose discussed below) seems to have an impact on the general state of inflammation.
Some of the impact may be from the stimulating effects of the cayenne, habanero and horseradish which are thought to have a homeopathic effect on the inflammation, where the body compensates for the benign irritation/inflammation temporarily induced by these herbs.
#8: The cardio-vascular impact of this formula cannot be overstated. #7 has more impact on cardio-vascular health than any other factor. Even so, some history suggests that at least garlic and cayenne are chelative to the deposits on the artery walls. Empirical evidence in the author’s practice suggests that arteries are cleaned out faster by cayenne than by any other substance in his experience.
This may need more study, but it is actually a quite old approach. Within weeks there seems to be a substantial improvement in circulation and arterial health.
Cayenne and parsley are also traditional foods for the heart, so freely and widely endorsed that one has difficulty dismissing the claims.
Enzymes have long been used to clean up the arteries, and this formula appears to be good competition for the leading enzyme supplements on the market.
#9: The impact on the liver of these herbs should be obvious to any informed individual. The liver likes to be cleaned, flushed with blood and eased in its burdens. These herbs may do all of these in most cases.
We know that these herbs are both carminative and cholagogue, which means the liver has less work to do (because digestion is better) and gets to easily cleanse (because of the increased flow of bile out of the liver).
Some of the components, like garlic and horseradish, may affect the liver in other ways by killing parasites, increasing circulation (niacin is often used for liver flushing with this action in mind, but it is hard to find niacin pills on any tree I am aware of) and thinning debris.
The increased flow of bile through the gall bladder may also help with insomnia. Dr. Christopher taught, and the author has often confirmed, that backed up static electricity contributes to insomnia. This condition might be alleviated through barefoot walking on the grass or in the snow, but the natural system that keeps up with static accumulation appears to be the flow of bile.
Static electricity certainly could be affected by the charged particles that make up bile. Whether this can explain the system-wide affect of increased bile flow is debatable. As it is the only explanation on record, it is the one the author uses and the practical outcome bears out the theory for the moment.
#10: The elimination systems should probably be discussed first, for all their importance. Even so, we will do well to discuss it now.
Garlic and cayenne have long been known to be cathartic to the colon. Ginger helps bile flow too and encourages directional movement through the bowel (preventing spasm).
Bile flow in general will be cathartic to the colon and is the natural cathartic.
The warming action will increase elimination through the skin and kidneys as well.
It is possible that the solvent properties of the enzymes and the probiotic properties of vinegar, will have a long-term, lasting, healing effect on the colon and other channels of elimination.
The herbs in this formula also contain other solvent properties and the warming effect of horseradish will help the most stubborn bowels the most.
Preparation of the Formula:
The formula is made fresh by finely chopping, grating or blending small pieces of each of the fresh herbs into the raw apple cider vinegar. The vinegar should cover the herbs by an inch when done.
This is then let sit for two weeks, and then it is pressed out/strained and bottled for anytime use or for regular daily use.
The author recommends taking two droppers full three times daily in water for maintenance. It is especially effective before meals or sipped in water with meals.
Each herb is used in roughly equal volume. Cayenne and Habanero each make up a half part each by volume.
This formula can be a powerful addition to a home apothecary and to a daily health maintenance/recovery program. It can be used for acute infections, healing programs or daily health promotion.
It is the author’s hope that the readers will take yet another step toward health autonomy by making their own miracle formulas whenever possible and by making them work for them through increased learning, trial and error and intuitive good sense.

Real health begins with spiritual congruency, meaning that we live by the standards we believe in and which we believe are ethical issues that will always apply. In other words, we could say that these are things that probably ought to apply in any version of heaven we might imagine as well as on this earth right now. These are things like integrity, love, kindness, peace, trust and so forth.
A good friend of mine, who is a Scientologist (which I tell you to emphasize that I am not expecting your beliefs to match mine--as I am not a Scientologist), told one of his clients that he simply does not commit acts that require him to make up a story to make it okay for him to do the act. It does not matter if it is taxes or extramarital relations or charging more to his clients using creative methods of dividing the expenses of activities he does for them.
I really appreciate this friend. He lives what he believes. He does not lie to himself.
One epidemic among spiritual beliefs is the disease of a psychological attachment to what one wants to believe or feels the need to defend. This can be very different from what one really believes. This disease works for both radical religious individuals and for those who have abandoned their faith out of anger, frustration or confusion.
But real spirituality only has one form only. That form changes and modifies behavior to a higher plane in anticipation of something that goes beyond this life and its trials and its rewards.
Ironically, this change that goes beyond this life is the only way to be truly at peace enough in this life to have ideal health. Many have known this, though they had differing understandings of how it should be done. My friend, the Scientologist, follows the wisdom of L. Ron Hubbard, a wise man indeed. Another friend follows Buddhism. Another is a Catholic, another a Jew, another a Mormon and a very good friend of mine is Hindu and I have read many of his books with gratitude and delight. He also believes strongly in a deep spiritual belief, a word that literally means "to live by."
The issue of spiritual health is not what one believes, but that one does reconcile himself to his beliefs and that he does not allow himself to lie to himself for any reason about those beliefs. This lie cannot be swallowed and will choke health and peace to death.
Other "spiritual" experiences, which only access communion with more ethereal spheres, might be useful, healthful and enlightening, but they are not really contributors to spiritual health.
Once this is understood, and accepted, one can make sudden progress and can reconcile himself quite rapidly with his real spiritual beliefs and become congruent. The result of this will be a sudden surge in health in all other arenas of life. This will include his/her ability to manage his/her thoughts and ability to exercise faith in his/her body to heal and and in the natural healing process. This will result in real and prompt improvement in health and happiness.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to read about this subject, that, while simpler than any other subject in health, really, is also the most vital.
I know this subject is skirted and everything but this is addressed when it comes to health. Generally, when "spirituality" is addressed by health professionals, they mean something that, however healthful, is not spiritual as it only has temporal value, even if that value is ethereal. Some say spirituality is found by bathing naked in the moonlight. I might be all for this, but it is not spirituality.
I know this discussion is probably new to many of you, my friends, but I believe in your ability to process this information and find its rightful application for you.
Now, I do have an offering for you, on a slightly different subject. This subject is also very valuable to making natural healing work. It is the subject of the daily discipline of food.
When a person eats the standard American way, or in some "healthy" way without real understanding, the process of healing can be undermined or greatly slowed.

A friend of mine sent me an email recently inquiring about homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs) as a probiotic. It pushed me to devote a newsletter to just this subject of probiotics in an attempt to clarify the issue to the best of our ability at this time at humanity’s present level of understanding cross-referenced with Nature’s obvious clues.
First, let’s just catch everyone up on why we want to have probiotics in the first place, and what they are.
Probiotics are the opposite, essentially, of antibiotics. They contain at least fermented (i.e. propagated, proliferated, grown, colonized) bacteria and, ideally, would contain whole symbiotic colonies of bacteria, yeasts and fungi. These colonies naturally occur in us and on us. They occur in our guts and on our skins.
When these colonies are at peak health, they are like a rain forest. You can drop the seed of a foreign bacteria, but it has no chance of survival because the perfect biosphere is already there and thriving. In other words, foreign bacteria, potentially dangerous to us, will actually die in a few seconds on our skin and in our guts because of that flora already there. It cannot grow because there is no growing space for it to live in.
In addition to these colonies creating a forest-like barrier on our guts and skin (shown in every study to protect us better than any other thing against foreign bacteria, viruses, yeasts and infections), we also exist symbiotically with them. That is to say, we feed them stuff we cannot use and, in addition to the protection they offer, they also feed back into our bloodstreams vast amounts of organic substances, vitamins, cofactors, enzymes, oxygen, high energy compounds (from which we make ATP—the fuel of life), medicinal substances, immune system markers and so forth.
Indeed, anyone with seriously compromised flora, especially gut flora (well, apparently, according to present research) cannot ever have a healthy immune system until that flora is normalized or close to it.
So we have, I hope, established a few of the almost endless reasons for wanting a healthy flora and now let’s talk about the problem we face today with our friendly flora.
If you never took antibiotics (which is the most absolute way to wipe out your flora and leave it grossly out of balance after), you still should listen up about flora. There are many other threats that must be taken seriously in our culture.
The first of these, believe it or not, is stress. Stress alone, all other unnatural forces aside, will make an assault on flora by radically changing the pH of your gut, distressing our digestion and decreasing circulation to the gut. All of these may endanger some of the more delicate elements of the balance of flora in the gut.
The next thing is the food we choose. Flora lives, primarily, on the undigested remnants of whole plant food. Anything else will disrupt the balance by allowing some less desirable flora to overgrow and letting some key helpful flora die. This means that we need a constant influx (if not a diet exclusively) of raw plant food, rich in fiber and unusable nutrient components. Some, who advocate lightly cooking food to get “more out of it,” have apparently forgotten all about friendly flora, among other things. Still, one need not be a raw foodist to have flora that is in pretty good shape, but one should remember that it is raw plant remnants that our flora colony grows upon most perfectly and we should eat plenty of it regularly.
Before we leave food, there is some threat of either anti-biotic substances in food or bacteria inhibiting agents in food that will, of course, disrupt our healthy flora also. While this might be done for our safety in a world that transports food all around the globe from various preparation conditions, it nevertheless is an assault on our flora. Dairy products, whey, and many health supplements, as well as canned goods with preservatives, packaged goods with sprayed bags and sterilizing agents are all possible threats. Even raw produce with chemical residues of pesticides and fungicides are sure to damage flora.
We would like to all switch to eating from CSA farms in our areas or at least the best of organic produce from reputable farms and providers. And yet, even if we did, we would still be in some additional dangers.
In our water, there are heavy metals, fluoride and chlorine, not to mention possible industrial waste residues that might disrupt our health in many ways, but all of these do definitely disrupt healthy flora. Chlorine is specifically designed to kill microorganisms in water, it is obvious that it does kill friendly flora on our skins and in our guts.
In our house, we keep a simple, inexpensive whole-house filter on the inlet line for water. This takes out the vast majority of the chlorine and a few other residues and minerals. It is no substitute for higher quality units for drinking water, but it helps minimize what passes through our skins.
Recently, I was exposed to the possibility of mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings. My own research is only beginning on this subject, so I will include the link to a YouTube video on the subject so you can read one source’s research and conjecture on the subject. Certainly, it appears that there are fungi, yeasts and a few undesirable bacteria which feed on mercury laden tissues and which cause a variety of potential conditions and diseases. In today’s world, there is little chance of isolating and avoiding every possible assault on our flora. What we can do is:
- Eat healthy, whole food, organic when possible with an abundance of raw plant food as part of the program. In Traci’s books (www.bestfoodist.com) the basic standards are explored in detail and in a friendly, easy-introduction format. If you wonder what the basics are and how to apply them, please go check out her materials if you have not done so. Her information is uniquely useful whether you ate fast food earlier today or whether you are a complete raw foodist.
- Reduce stress and keep ourselves healthy. Many ideas for this are given on www.kalsschool.com and several key things help us maintain a healthier life today. Massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, yoga or chi gong, meditation, simple living (including wise use of our resources), regular cleansing, biannual retreats for health or learning, treatment with bioenergetic devices, dry skin brushing, visits to spas and wellness centers and so forth are all very useful tools for keeping stress at bay in our lives.
The absolute most powerful tool of all is spiritual centeredness, which is to say eternal-centeredness. As always, I emphasize that I am not trying to get you to believe what I believe, but please believe something and live accordingly without variation or wavering. For humans, the need to let a belief in an eternal world, for which this life is an advanced curriculum, totally govern our thoughts, choices, tastes and disciplines is absolute and uncontested.
The choice to believe, have faith and live according to that faith to the subversion of all else is the only source of sanity for humans. Much could be said about this, but I shall trust in your ability to listen to the voice in you that will tell you what to do next.
- Clean up some of the really toxic stuff in our lives and bodies. If you have been abusing some substance, get help. If you have amalgam fillings in your teeth, go start getting them removed now. If you have addictions to unhealthy appetites, get help for that and stop fooling yourself. If you heavily use chemicals, perfumes, sprays or toxic cleaners or lotions, start trading them out right now for truly healthful stuff. There are times for strong chemicals, but these should be carefully selected only after trying the totally natural options offered for whatever it is. Start buying water or purchase a unit that will provide drinking water that is pure and far healthier than tap water. Take a look around you and if you have obviously unhealthy habits or surroundings, begin changing those things that you can change.
Often I hear of people bemoaning the things they do not feel they can change, such as jobs, house location, relationships, etc, but invariably when we do change what we really do have power to change, we find ourselves either able to do more or not needing to do as much as we thought with the things that seem so important to us. There are exceptions and these must be noticed and decided individually (I never recommend a person quit a job or leave a spouse, for example) but I strongly urge any who listen to my voice to work on the million or so things that are in every life that need nothing but a choice to go to work on, instead of taking on the icons in life that are often only unpleasant and intolerable because of the million, which they frequently are an outgrowth of.
- Replacing our friendly flora regularly is the primary subject of this newsletter. This can be done by consuming healthy fermented goods, drinking rejuvelac smoothies, eating organic produce without scrubbing it off thoroughly, taking in high quality probiotic supplements (which are very scarce indeed), consuming sprouted seeds and probably half a dozen other ways that I am either unaware of or do not consider vital to mention. Below, I shall discuss probiotics and then follow with the recipe for rejuvelac smoothies, which is my favorite way to replenish flora.
To discuss probiotics is to expose a little cynical thinking on my part. There are, in a healthy gut, over 300 different types of flora in the “rainforest” that exists there in symbiosis with each other and with us. Until the advent of David Wolfe’s “The Sun Is Shining” super supplement (which boasts a very abundant 40 different friendly flora microorganisms) the best probiotic money could buy never had more than 15 different microorganisms. Most of them had three and called themselves high quality. It is really an industry that is a disgusting embarrassment. The pretense of replacing flora, while only providing one of three hundred (typically acidophilus) is an insult to the consumer intelligence. Of course, this is probably better than nothing and it is an important component of a healthy flora, but still far less than is required to restore the vital balance we should enjoy in our guts and on our skin.
Even some of the supposed finest sources of flora (homeostatic soil organisms or HSO’s), turned up with few flora and questionable quality.
Recently, I read an article about HSO’s which claimed that the spore-containing nature of them made them dangerous. While I cannot answer for individual companies and the quality and purity of their products, I can definitely state that the fear of using HSO’s for a probiotic is nonsense. Indeed, the most natural way to replace our flora, if we lived in a natural setting, would be the constant, incidental consumption of HSO’s on our gathered and grown food. Every animal in nature finds a way to eat these, directly or indirectly.
It would appear, even from observing nature, that we have a real need to constantly replenish our flora, which probably is because there is a natural way of clearing all flora from our gut in case of infection. No doubt, you have experienced this as acidic, watery bowel movements rushed through with diarrhea during illness. The toxins from infecting microorganisms stimulated the body to begin flushing and all the friendly flora got wiped out. This then had to be replenished and nature readily provided new colonies all around us. Of course, if we eat the American way, we might be in danger of never again balancing our flora as it should be.
So, since most of us are probably not eating raw, organic produce from a local Community Supported Agriculture farm (CSA), we probably need to think about other ways to replenish and maintain our friendly flora.
One way to keep a little coming in all the time is to consume raw fermented foods, like vinegar, miso, nama shoyu, seed cheeses (recipes in Traci’s Transformational Kitchen Recipe Collection www.bestfoodist.com ), etc.
Another option is to eat plenty of raw produce that provides indigestible starches and cellulose that flora thrives on. This produce will also provide us with flora if it is organically grown and not scrubbed with soaps and such.
Some people supplement with a burdock decoction, which contains concentrated inulin, the premium starch for growing flora (like spraying fertilizer on a rain forest). Of course, burdock has many benefits for detoxification, liver health, blood health and metabolism health, so it is a decent idea to drink the decoction by a couple ounces per day. Then there is rejuvelac. This simple product contains a full spectrum of flora and can be made for pennies or less per dose. It is grown on any viable true grain (true grains grow on grasses—millet, rye, wheat, barley, rice, kamut, teff, oats, etc.). Viable means that it is capable of sprouting. This will insure that a full spectrum flora can be grown on it.
This is very simple to make. It requires distilled water and a cup or so of the selected grain (for various reasons, we generally recommend millet, though each type of grain will provide specific medicines and tastes).
Put the grain in a quart jar and fill it with distilled water one evening. The next morning, pour off and dispose of this water. Put the wet grain back into the jar and fill again with distilled water. The following morning (24 hours later) pour off the water. This water will be smelly and bubbly and is called rejuvelac. It contains a full spectrum of fermented (grown, proliferated) flora.
Put one pint in the fridge for later and pour the other pint in the blender. Put in frozen fruit and a wholesome sweetener (honey, agave, molasses, maple syrup, dates, figs) and blend into a smoothie. This should be drunk that morning on an empty stomach.
The jar can be refilled and the same grain reused up to 5 times before it really falls totally apart and becomes unpleasant. Each time, half can be saved. This should be continued each morning for two weeks the first time and repeated for a week every 4-6 weeks just as a matter of maintenance.
I suppose, I must point out that this will create a raw fermented product that might pose a threat to someone with serious immune compromise. I believe that it would actually help such a person dramatically, but still, the warning must be announced at this time.

This article will discuss the obvious, but amazingly unknown emergent quality of health and disease—how it appears or disappears without clear cause and effect. First, we will discuss the modern quantum physics discussion of emergence and then we will follow up with an application to health and healing.
The Terrible Questions:
The "Terrible Questions" are usually those questions that science avoids because any answer to them points out clearly the existence of a God. The careful avoidance of these questions preserves the illusion that one can pseudo-intellectually pacify guilt and validate hedonism. In this article, however, we shall use this discussion a little differently. We will talk about the "Terrible Questions" as those that quantum physics is posing about what we shall call the emergent quality, which is very uncomfortable to medical science and natural healing experts alike.
Emergence, in a meta-scientific sense, implies that something emerges into existence from nonexistence. One of the previously stated "Terrible Questions" is "Why?" Even so, it is terrible enough to suggest that something could emerge even if we do not ask why. We live in a world of cause and effect, where supplements, even more freely than drugs and surgery, are sold on the premise that cause and effect exist and can be understood. This concept, however, appears to be wasting away in the wake of quantum physics.
Quantum physics, as it applies to subatomic particles (and we can thank Dr. Deepak Chopra for making this popular knowledge today), shows that subatomic particles exist only when and only where we look for them. So if we are not looking for a subatomic particle, it is not in the field where we might look for it, but when we look for it, it suddenly appears, even if the distance between is considerable. The debate in quantum physics that this has spawned is, "does this apply to macro-matter as well as micro-matter?" In other words, do you create your world, and do we collectively create (as Vedic philosophy has believed for thousands of years) our world as it is each day and each hour and so forth with the expectations we look for?
This is a terrible question because it takes power away from tyrants (we are creating them) and takes blame away as a hook to get off on when something goes wrong. It also blends into health very nicely and poses the question about believing anyone who is teaching cause and effect. It seems healers should be as holistic in their approach as we have the understanding to be today.
The idea of selling supplements begins to sound a little like the Apostle Paul sending his handkerchief with a messenger to heal someone far away instead of healing that person in person because he was busy or tired. The handkerchief is a discipline and something to put faith in and maybe it changed to some real extent because Paul was commissioned by the other Apostles, who were commissioned by Jesus Christ, etc, but at the end of the day, the handkerchief did not treat a real deficiency. It was some other property that brought healing. Likewise, one has to wonder about many supplements. Do they heal, or is it some other quality that rendered whatever result seemed to appear?
Dr. Christopher, the famous American Herbalist, believed in a book written around his time, called "Biological Transmutation" which postulated that the body really could transmute one mineral into another and convert one thing to another in the body as needed. This led to a belief (one that has oft been supported anecdotally) that a healthy plant cell will always make a healthy human cell because anything the plant is using that is different than what a human body uses can be transmuted into its counterpart for human needs. This would also explain breatharians, who are now numerous enough in this country to be hard to dismiss as folklore. Of course, some people on healthy raw food diets get deficient and many people attempt breatharianism and find themselves wholly incapable of doing it, but the question is what is so different from one case to the next?
The answer to this question has to be that health (as well as disease) is somehow emergent. If a mineral can be made into another mineral and we have no biological pathway for that, then there is a problem with biological cause and effect. Perhaps we create the cause and effect because we are looking for it! Maybe, such a miraculous conversion (which does not appear rare at all in the natural healing world) is strong evidence, if not proof, of an emergent quality.
Emergence appears to be the cause of many diseases. In all very good natural healing practices, it is well understood that some people follow exactly what is known to heal consistently and yet do not get well. Greater and greater effort and creativity is needed to solve the problems they have and some people always seem to be just beyond the ability of the practitioner. Is this an emergent quality? Are these individuals creating the expression of this disease for a higher purpose that is not met by the disciplines of supplementing and eating right and so cannot yet allow themselves to be healed of their disease? The argument of this article is that each of us experiences health, disease, aging and vitality as emergent.
These experiences appear to be expressions of higher realms of existence needing attention (and perhaps repair) that simply come into being using the mediums that the collective anticipation is creating at that moment in time. These can be treated according to what universe is being created by that collective anticipation. But the real problem may or may not get treated or even noticed. The discipline of healing may not fill an important void. Thus emerges holistic healing. But holistic healing has a modern limitation too, in that it is not allowed to discuss candidly the spiritual and religious needs of humans, obvious as they are to anyone paying attention. Thus, there may be a layer waiting to be tapped that has not been tapped and seems unavailable to discuss in even comprehensive holistic healing programs.
Still, much accelerated progress can be made when diet, exercise, herbs, live food, connecting with nature, emotional releases and mental training are mixed together with wisdom. Just releasing trapped emotions, as taught in many modalities from EFT to Dianetics to the modern edge found in the Emotion Code, can create spontaneous healing without supplements. Even deficiencies and toxins spontaneously disappear with just the release of trapped emotions! Clearly, holistic healing can do some great things and is tapping some high levels of existence. All the best healing practitioners, however, are bumping constantly into an increasingly clear reality (an inconvenient truth?) that health and disease are emergent. We recreate differently new diseases because we solve half the problem and then a new disease emerges to continue expressing the rest of the problem we did not solve. Perhaps even the word solve is a gross assumption and really it is an awareness, a release or some other more nebulous experience that will create the healing our world needs.
The postulate of this article is that all our reality is emergent. When God placed in man the "breath of life," perhaps He placed in him a starting program and we (his posterity) then began to manifest our world according to the disturbances or purity we embodied thereafter. We gave then and now give expression through our health or disease. It shows us our health or disease on a higher level. This is both individual and collective. If true health is ever to be enjoyed, perhaps it is up to us to improve the quality of people we are and then health will emerge. It is useful to use holistic arts to create the emergence of health from such levels as we can directly affect (like emotional or mental or physical retraining, conditioning or medicating), but beyond this there is something that creates all of the physical experience we now have. The physical and mortal experience emerges from it.

Toxic Minerals and Water in YOUR Body
In the world around us, we find fear, anger, distrust, doubt, etc. thriving well. These things find their way into the very material life is made out of. Their energy is embedded in food, water, minerals, chemicals and the air we breathe.
We now think we know that the very chemical bonds, which we previously thought were predictable, of compounds and paired elements are changed just a little based on the energy around those elements or compounds. These subtle changes carry energy that brings health or disease with them into our bodies. They may also bring health or disease to the ecosystem.
In addition to this, some minerals are toxic by nature when taken in beyond a very tiny amount.
Combined, these two factors make water, minerals and chemicals around us today a combined threat because they accumulate in our bodies and begin to create disease. More importantly, they begin to attract disease and change the vibration and energy of things we take in to be more disease-forming than health forming.
We are finding today that many people are starting to accumulate water with disease-forming bonds as well as toxic minerals and minerals in compounds with toxic energy recorded in their bonds. These are accumulating in their tissues, organs and fat cells.

Before that, let me finish explaining the problem. One thing that happens is that colonies of amoebas, bacteria and fungi will find happy living conditions where this water and minerals accumulates. They will at first function symbiotically to help us eliminate these toxins, but if we do not cooperate or if we do things to push the problem deeper, they will eventually settle in and create a wall around themselves and create slow, dank, deep disease in that area which can eventually confuse the immune system and lead to auto-immune disease.
We could attack the invaders, but this would not, by itself, be a cure.
Another thing that happens is that this condition of toxic water and emotions can accumulate to such a volume that new nutrients coming in that might feed the body begin to change and to resonate with the toxic material and thereby become additional poisons! This can happen even with raw, live food.
The settling of these toxic minerals and water is a major liability today because so many toxic emotions around us are affecting the minerals and water around us and also because government and big business are invested in disseminating into the air and environment experimental debris out of a deep state of fear.
Speaking of fear, the energy of technology flying through the air, such as through microwaves, cell phones, radio waves, etc, is enough to threaten us, but tragically the vibration of these carries along a signature of so much negative thought and general toxicity found in the hearts of people in a very sick world.
These general conditions have answers today. Some of the answers are found in efforts we can put forth and other answers are found in technology developed by wise and well-meaning people today that are determined to do business helping people be healthier and happier.

Plagues and Bioterror
Hi Friends,
This newsletter is in response to many queries about infections, plagues, bio-engineered viruses, fungi, parasites and so forth.
Fortunately, today, I have something more to say than ever before.
A good friend and natural healing colleague sat me down last time I was out to see her and showed me her latest addition to her preparations for the troubling times she feels (and I feel) are coming. She told me a story about an acquaintance who researches bio-terror. This person had developed a machine to test the impact of current drugs, herbs, colloidal minerals and so forth on the genetically engineered “super-bugs” that he knew about.
After much research (I do not have a list of what he tried, only his word that he felt he was thorough) he felt that nothing would kill those viruses and bacteria and that the world’s population would be in serious jeopardy if anyone decided to release them. He felt that the release of these was inevitable to meet the UN’s target of reducing the world’s population to 500,000,000 people, or a little less than 10% of the current population.
Then, someone sent him a sample of wild Mediterranean oregano oil. The sample he tested killed every single one of the super-bugs with ease. This was particularly exciting because this oil is pretty innocuous to humans, other than killing all their friendly flora as well.
I was aware of the plans to reduce the world’s population. I was also aware of the engineering of viruses and bacteria that were intended to kill at least 90% of the world’s population. The idea that nature had already stepped one step ahead was exciting to me.
Of course, I, like many of you, had heard about oregano oil before and had checked out North American Herb and Spice, which is the leading product on the retail shelves…but it is also $35+ for 1/3 ounce of the pre-diluted oil!
Well, after I got some of this batch of wild Mediterranean oregano oil from my friend (which I had to dilute myself) a lot cheaper, I started testing it on several problems that people were having around me. One had late stage Lyme disease, which is very hard to treat because the robust spirochete bacterium works its way into places that neither antibiotics nor the human immune system will go. We were able to immediately get results using this oregano oil. This person is far better and, though still using the oregano oil (and will have to for some time yet), this person got better results the first week than the strong and specific antibiotic drugs provide.
Another case had a fungus in his skin. He had tried everything. Within two weeks of using the oregano oil, he had only a non-substantial ring of difference in the infected skin to the skin around it. We were very impressed.
We have used it on the flu also, though I consider this to be abusing the oil, which should only be used when there is a real threat of the body not handling the problem. Some flu bugs might warrant this, but generally not. The swine flu, currently an alleged pandemic, does not seem to warrant it.

The Miracle of Preparedness…The Pain of Un -Preparedness
Hi Friends,
A couple months ago, at an event at the school where I am studying chiropractic, a classmate held in her arms a dying man. This man was a graduate of Life University and a practicing chiro who had come back for the training event. He was struggling to breathe his last breath. His heart failed him and he died in her arms.
She was traumatized beyond belief and his was a tragic and untimely death.
I offer to her my sympathy and my heartfelt empathy for her pain, confusion and trauma. I know she must have felt so helpless and desperate as well as fearful of thinking about her own mortality. It must have been, as I witnessed in her later, very trying indeed.
For the man who died, his family must be very sorrowful. They would have expected him to come back charged with excitement, maybe, from his training and gaining insight and motivation for his practice. I do not know, I never met nor do I know now about this man or his family.
My mind kept returning to this woman who I do know, however. I wonder…if she had only known about using cayenne to stop heart attacks and if she had been prepared, she might have been elated instead of disturbed. She might have felt new life and excitement in her breast instead of trauma and fear. She might have slept better instead of not sleeping at all.
This event prompted a discussion with a friend of mine about the possibility of an herbal first aid kit that included a keychain attachment that would hold sufficient cayenne pepper to administer should someone be in the throes of a heart attack. Today, I am going to share with you the outcome of that conversation.
Before I tell you the news of what I have put together, let me tell you about the history of cayenne in a little more depth. Dr. Christopher, my first and greatest natural healing mentor, used cayenne pepper for dozens of heart attack victims in his many years of practice and he never lost one! He said that cayenne would "equalize" circulation, getting blood past blockages instantly and stopping flowing losses of blood within seconds. He used it for every heart attack and for severe bleeding alike. It always worked.
He would put a teaspoon to a tablespoon of cayenne in warm water and have the person sort of come around and drink the mix. To them, in that state, it tasted like ambrosia! It is not hot at all when you really need it. In minutes they would seem to recover and start to regain strength quickly. Often, they would be at full strength before he left.
For stroke, cayenne is equally valuable if used quickly.
Now, let me tell you another story from the School of Natural Healing’s history. They had a student who had gone hunting with a friend. He had been listening to what Dr. Christopher had said and so he went out prepared, at least minimally—he did have cayenne with him.
In the course of things, somehow, the student managed to shoot the other one with a big game rifle in the abdomen. They were some distance from help, so the first immediately began pushing spoons of cayenne pepper in water down his friend. As they traveled, the treatment was repeated. Eventually, they came to the hospital where the surgeon was able to stitch shut the holes through body wall and internal organs, but did not need to drain any blood from the body cavity because THERE WAS NONE!
In a case like this, bleeding to death seems likely and substantial blood loss into the abdomen is a certainty, but the cayenne stopped the bleeding and did not let it fill the gut. Within reason, this can save lives. (Note, by “within reason” I mean, there must not be a major artery severed which is supplying whole regions of the body as this could not be stopped…anything else, even smaller injuries to major arteries, is fair game for cayenne, and, after all, what could it hurt?)
More personally, one of my daughters came running into the vinyl tile floored bathroom when it was a bit wet. She slipped and fell full force right onto the back of her head. She began hemorrhaging from the nose. I had the cayenne there and immediately gave her a drink of cayenne and water. Within a few seconds, the bleeding stopped.
This can help prevent damage from head injuries, where bleeding inside the skull might create damage or death, or at least, the inconvenience and pain of a mild concussion. Imagine, being able to stop the damage before it starts!
The key is not just having the cayenne and knowing how to use it, it is also having it ON HAND!
